Howard Enterprises, Inc. (HEI) began designing and marketing its TeleCamera products in 1989. Originally, B&W cameras were produced. HEI was the first company to manufacture video cameras specifically for videoconferencing applications.
The company's pioneering efforts continued with the introduction of color TeleCamera models in 1991. Built-in microphones were added to these color TeleCameras in late 1991 to permit audio and videoconferencing from the desktop. TeleCamera products feature optional lenses, state-of-the-art CCD technology, audio input capabilities, compact design, and a low cost factor.
The company was incorporated in 1993 as a family owned business. It became affiliated with Nippon Control Kogyo, Co., Ltd. (NCK) of Saitama, Japan which produced the TeleCameras for HEI. However, the principal business of NCK was the design and manufacturing of solenoid pumps. Impressed by the quality and the reliability of the TeleCameras that were produced, HEI added NCK's line of solenoid pumps and peripherals to its line of products that it distributed.
